Abstract(s)
In the study the author deals with problems of religious views and practices of the Czech population. He discusses roots of the recent growth of its identification with religion with regard to the European context. He finds these roots in the crisis of the modem world that is accompanied with the increasing ignoration of spiritual values and with the seeking after something new. The phenomenon of the new religiosity does not mean only a revival of traditional religions. In Czech Republic, as well as in the whole Europe, we can see the rising new religions and various spiritual movements. It is difficult to say what kind of category we meet in those cases: nonteistic religion or some pseudoreligious entity (e.g. Human Potentiality Movements, political cults). Some of the new religious movements are characterized by a dangerous narrow-minded, sectarian self-identification with a concrete religion or its substitution. In the end the author lists institutions and research groups dealing with the spirituality of the post-modern era, new religious movements and sects.
