Description
This article looks at a scheme for a socio-cultural system from the provinces of Moravia from the first half of the 18th century. This has its foundation in the reality of the social dimension of culture. Culture is understood as a system of cultural elements of general application to the members of the community in which it is current. For this reason its attention is focused on a social group whose members are in a position to communicate with one another with the result that they form cultural elements of common significance. In this particular case - that of the population of Sebranice in the first half of the 18th century - an analysis is performed with the use of archive sources to achieve the geographical demarcation of the social area of the population of Sebranice, taking the origins of Sebranice's newly-weds, the godparents of its children, the partners in trade of the village magistrate and references to its geographical surroundings in his papers. This socially horizontal demarcation of the social area of Sebranice is supplemented with a socially vertical demarcation, which comprises concrete data on the impact of state, nobility, church and the sciences on the population of Sebranice as these apply to the period in question.
