Abstract(s)
This paper highlights the role of Latin and Greek in the forming of medical terminology in the development of Slovak of the pre-codification period. These theses are found in the manuscripts and prints in 17th and 18th century. Latin and Greek represented a formal and semantic source in the process of naming of diseases. In two-word names of diseases meets the Latin language the criteria of lexical rendering of semantic attributes. These attributes were based on a typical sign or symptom of the disease and are equally relevant for the upcoming terminology in the pre-literary Slovak language. To extend the mentioned development of the medical terminology are used the examples from the Historical dictionary of Slovak language, from the dictionary of the first codification of Slovak language written by Anton Bernolák. There are also used other examplifications from the medical dictionaries from the period of the first Republic of Czechoslovakia till the current dictionaries of Slovak languages.
