Objective predictors of happiness have significant but weak effects, except for the strong effect of interpersonal belongingness. Subjective factors often have strong effects, and so happiness is best predicted by understanding personal standards of comparison, meaningfulness of life, personality traits, goal structures, and patterns of self-deception or illusion.
