Abstract(s)
The dramatic and cinematic versions of the legendary character of Golem discussed here foreground his quality as an animated object used on stage and screen. This contribution attempts to capture the specific features of the film (Paul Wegener) and theatre (V+W) rendering of Golem conceptualized almost concurrently by the theorists of the Prague Linguistic Circle. They explore among others the effects of statue on stage, and screen, the use of gestures in film, and the effects of puppets, which are the elements present in both discussed works.
