Abstract(s)
The task of the study is to examine a set of texts elaborated in the socio-cultural millieu generally known as "Islamic fundamentalism" that ranks among the vital contemporary manifestations of Islamic civilization. The author assumes, that Islam could be approached as a functional ideological instrument. The adherents of such an ideology use to formulate their attitudes and aspirations through more or less sophisticated sum of communicative signs and symbols shaping the social awareness and influencing behavior of various types of "believers" both in political and religious (socio-psychological) plans. According to the author's premise the behavior of various types of social strata has been influenced by a set of signs and symbols (words or compositions of words). Each of them includes appropriate semantical value, that can be highly relevant during the process of regulating and motivating society's political conduct. Hence, the political activities in the network of Islamic ideology can be studied within the context of social communication, which has been usually carried out by using signs and symbols - in our case that of examined texts. The author uses methodology of the content analysis putting the stress on the fact, that "a word" as an essential sign of communication plays a specific cultural and socio-psychological role in the culture of Arabs and Islam and so does "a symbol" - usually a chain of words of special semantic relevance - both evoking historical reminiscences anchored in various "chapters" of Islamic (mostly Arab) history. The abovementioned content analysis demonstrated on the representative sample of religious (ideological) texts of contemporary fundamentalist groups and "theological" streams enables the author to make some conclusive remarks included in the paper.
