Description
A lot has been written about the Croatian ethnic minority that has been present in Slovakia for almost five centuries. Historians, demographers, linguists, ethnographers, folk art experts, scholars specialising in literature and other scientists explained various aspects of migration, settlement processes and emigrant issues of Slovak Croats. Long time has passed before there was a monograph that we can consider to be the foundation stone of the branch of science and research that we call Slovak Croatian studies. This breakthrough monograph (in terms of the applied methodology) was a complex and interdisciplinary monograph on the village named Chorvátsky Grob in Western Slovakia, published by Antonín Václavík in 1925 under the name Podunajská dedina v Československu. Its scientific significance is proved by reviews by Vilém Pražák, Milovan Gavazzi and other famous researchers, who all agreed that in terms of contents and methodology there is no publication that that measure with this one, not only in (now former) Czechoslovakia, but also within the context of folklore studies abroad, if we consider monographs covering the social and cultural aspects of a traditional community within a majority society.
