Abstract(s)
This article focuses on an analysis of the All Saints burial chapel as an important part of the grounds of Telč Chateau. Between the late 1560s and early 1580s a unique structure was built at this site, featuring the uniquely preserved painted and stucco decorations and a no less remarkable, special function. The authors of this study focus primarily on the question of the symbolic and structural role of this structure as a unique mausoleum of Zachariáš of Hradec (†1589) and his family; Zachariáš of Hradec attempted to build the new seat of a younger branch of the family of Lords of Hradec. The study seeks to examine the meaning of this memorial and representative structure, not just on the basis of the structure itself and its iconography, but also on the basis of normative ideas at the time and available comparisons. The study also draws on sources that have not yet been adequately worked through or have newly come to light. This is the case of the never published eulogy (laudatio funebris) to Zachariáš of Hradec, an edited Czech translation of which supplements the study.
