Description
The author of the study is engaged in Slovak and Czech translations of Hungarian novels. The writing summarizes his experience obtained through examining the books of Zsigmond Móricz, Dezső Kosztolányi, and Géza Ottlik. The objective is not to set up an independent theory but it is more about a characterization of a reading method which practises the traditional translation criticism with an interpretative aim suiting the requirements of literary hermeneutics. It comes from the idea that the translation is a peculiar interpretation of the original, and from this point of view the work of the translator should be considered equal to the performances of literary commentaries. He is not interested in the semantic and stylistic losses of the translations but focuses more on the translator's strategies and what positive functions these proceedings have in a better comprehension of the original work of art. The author tries to demonstrate through concrete examples how a translation can become the text that inspires and enriches the reinterpretation of the original work.
