Překlad Macbetha z konce 18. století (H. Kukla)

The study analyses an anonymous late 18th-century Czech translation of Macbeth and it traces its sources in German and Czech versions of the tragedy. By paying particular attention to the arrangement of the scenes and the examination of other period translations, it becomes clear that the text is an adaptation of Karel Hynek Thám's rendition from 1786 and it also draws heavily on Christopher Martin Wieland's Macbeth which dates from 1762-66 as well as Johann Joachim Eschenburg's text. The translator's ability to incorporate these sources in his work (and at times transgressing their inaccuracy), as well as presenting passages that are translated in Czech for the first time in their entirety, results in the earliest and most unusual translation of Shakespeare's Macbeth.
