Abstract(s)
This paper deals with valency of Dutch psych-verbs. Valency is the ability of a verb to bind a number of elements in order to form a grammatically correct sentence structure. Psych-verbs are verbs that refer to a situation in which an animate being can be subject to a change of their psychological state. It's been shown that these verbs deviate from the tendency to place nominal subject before nominal object in the middle field of the Dutch sentence. The aim is to analyze sentences containing Dutch psych-verbs and to find out which aspects influence the word order of the nominal subject and nominal object in the middle field. The results of the analysis of two psych-verbs – overvallen and overkomen – are presented in this paper.
