Abstract(s)
In 2004 the Department of Archaeology of the Faculty of Arts, Komenský University, Bratislava carried out archaeological research in the courtyard of the Eszterházy Palace, Kapitulská Street, Bratislava. The finds document settlements on the site from the Neolithic to the mid-20th century. The plot has been inhabited continuously since the late 12th century. The research has revealed farm-type buildings that were probably situated in line with the present street. Buildings dating from the late 12th and 13th centuries were concentrated closer to the street. At the time, Kapitulská Street was one of the main communications of the village below the castle. Habitation of the plot grew denser from the 14th century onwards. Objects from the 14th–16th centuries were regularly distributed all over the explored area. During this period, Kapitulská Street housed major church institutions such as the provost's office, the chapter and the Bratislava parsonage.
