Abstract(s)
Analysis of the visual program of the katholikon in Zarzma leads to questions of how the sculptures relate to the socio-political and historical background of this monastery. On the basis of certain common iconographies, this study suggests an intimate relationship with both Jerusalem and Mount Athos. The singular program of the church interior at Zarzma clearly points to the liturgical situation and religious developments in the second half of the fourteenth century.
