Abstrakt(y)
At the beginning of 2016, the Ahlulbayt Society for the People of Heaven established a new prayer hall for Shi'a Muslims in Brno (in the town district of Královo Pole). Previously, this prayer room had been located on the premises of Agroad trading company in Kuřim (a small town near Brno). During the completion of the project of this new prayer room there were several protest actions which escalated into anonymous threats being sent to the representatives of the city of Brno. The actual construction (reconstruction) of the building where the prayer room was to be situated became an important topic of the meetings of the city council at that time. The aim of this paper is to examine whether there have been changes in the strategies used by individual stakeholders to prevent the construction of Muslim sacral buildings on the territory of the Czech Republic and to assess the nature of these changes based on the case of a new Muslim prayer room (Shi'a cultural centre) in Brno. The paper also briefly explores the history and activities of the Shi'a community in the Czech Republic.
