Abstract(s)
The main aim of this study is to analyse the concepts of eucharistic transformation in the late Medieval Ages, specifically in the works of famous scholars and reformers John Wyclif and John Hus. Their positions on the issue are framed in a wider context on the debate on the Eucharist, which includes arguments from theological, exegetic, and scholastic metaphysics points of view. Characteristic opinions of both authors are confronted with the predominant teachings of the era, namely transubstantiation and remanence. The comparison will uncover differences between eucharist concepts, which were upheld by both thinkers. Based on these facts, the analysis follows the purposes, motivations and inspirations of John Wyclif and John Hus and what led them to different conclusions.
