The article responds to the mistaken classification of the work by Dominik Tatarka written in the 1970's and '80's as postmodern. While certain scholars and critics have regarded these works as having "postmodern tendencies", this study argues that Tatarka's work is instead characterized by straightforwardness, defined identity, seriousness and even tragedy, which he was cultivating at the time both in his real existence and his art. His poetics of time-space shifts and cuts is not post-modern; he had been using it long before, for example in Démon súhlasu.
