Abstract(s)
This study is dedicated to the Dutch painter Remigius van Haanen (1812-1894), who settled in Vienna in 1837, gaining acclaim for his romantic winter landscapes. It examines the painter's life, work, numerous study trips abroad, and his significance for 19th-century landscape art in central Europe. Using archival documents and contemporary press sources, the study explores the artist's affiliations with Viennese artistic circles and his extensive network of business contacts. Additionally, it provides insight into Van Haanen's art collecting activities, focusing especially on the Dutch masters.
